Aikido Classes

Ai - Harmony
Ki - Spirit/Energy
Do - The Way

This art, founded by Master Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei - meaning Great Teacher), applies circular motions, joint-locks, off-balancing techniques, throws, and pinning to neutralize aggression with the intent to avoid injury to the aggressor and self. Aikido training seeks to develop a student's internal and physical integrity. It is an art of high ideals.

The use of weapons such as the jo (walking stick), bokken (wooden sword) and tanto (knife) are taught in conjunction with empty handed techniques. Aikido is widely practiced by individuals, law enforcement, and security personnel due to its grappling capabilities allowing an alternative to striking in controlling hostility. Women are attracted to this art partly because techniques do not rely solely on physical strength. Young and old alike can continue to practice this art for many years and enhance overall wellness.

Classes are taught with traditional disciplines. Instructors are officially recognized and ranked with the Aikido Association International (AAI) in Tokyo, Japan and have trained there.
